As you may have already heard the city of San Francisco has now required Uber and Lyft drivers to obtain a business license to operate in the city. This is a brand new development and many cities may follow their lead. The deadline to apply for the business license is 30 days after the letter has been sent to your residence so be on the lookout for a letter from the city. The estimated cost is $91 for drivers making less than $100K a year. To make life easier on our fellow rideshare drivers so we’ve laid out all the necessary steps for you to obtain a business license:
Step 1: File Business Registration Form
Follow this link to the San Francisco Treasury and Tax collections:
Step 2: File the Above Form and Click Submit
Make sure you are aware that back taxes may apply as well if you have been an Uber or Lyft driver for longer than 1 year.
Step 3: Pay the Registration Fee:
You will receive an email after the registration form is complete - "Payment Required - New Business Application," simply follow the instructions within the email to access the payment system to pay applicable registration fees.
To submit payment via mail, print out the payment coupon you receive and mail it in with a check payable to the San Francisco Tax Collector:
